It’s simply amazing to see what airplanes look like when flying at night when shot at long exposures! The Air Traffic is a personal timelapse project which I shot over a period of about 6 months. One night while shooting a timelapse of lightning going off in the sky during a storm from my living room's window (00:18), I noticed little streaks of light moving across the frame. Living about a 10-minute drive away from the airport, the streaks of light were none other than airplanes flying to and from the airport. Then it struck me - To do a whole timelapse short film dedicated to airplanes flying at night. Some of my favorite shots were captured when I got really close to the airport's runway where airplanes take off and land. That was where I managed to capture some pretty huge streaks of light as the airplanes got really close to ground level and ready to land. The streaks of light are long exposures of the airplanes flying, about 8-15 seconds. The UK's main provider of air traffic control services, NATS, visualizes beautifully how complex and busy European airspace is.
"Airspace might be the invisible infrastructure, but it is every bit as important as the road, rail and utility networks we all rely on everyday. It is the lifeblood of our island economy, connecting the UK to the rest of the world. Getting it right matters and we all have a stake in it. That’s why we created this data visualization showing a typical summer’s day of air traffic from last year. It’s an amalgamation of two data sources – UK radar data from 21 June and European flight plan information from 28 July – and it clearly highlights the structure of airspace across the continent. A few highlights include the North Atlantic tracks that connect Europe with North America, the airways that run up the spine of the UK, the holding stacks at London’s capacity stretched airports and the military manoeuvres off Anglesey in Wales. We hope you enjoy it and that is acts as a small reminder of the incredible work air traffic controllers, working with pilots and ground crew, do every single day."

Golden Flight! What an incredible day, Solar Impulse high above the Golden Gate Bridge, gently hovering over the architectural masterpiece for all to see. We've been talking about this exploit for weeks, but seeing the first shots of the solar bird above San Francisco goes beyond what we had imagined: spectacular!
The Solar Impulse, created by explorer Bertrand Piccard and engineer André Borschberg, can only fly when the weather is perfect. And it is endeavoring to make a cross-country flight from San Francisco to JFK Airport in New York City.
Project 1794 was top secret in 1956. It was a flying saucer (remarkably looking like a UFO) meant to top out at MACH 4, and capable of vertical takeoff and landing. The Aeronautical Systems Division (USAF) recently released these images for the project.
